Best concrete for concrete slab?

Different types of cement are used to build concrete slabs, but the best would be Portland Pozzolana cement (PPC). People use PPC to produce concrete for homes, residential areas and schools. An outdoor paradise is even more attractive when it can be decorated with outdoor kitchens, fire pits, benches, hot tubs and other elements, although the extra weight of this type of furniture could benefit from a concrete patio. Ideal concrete for a new patio that won't chip, crack or chip soon under all the pressures of entertainment (literal and figurative) needs high compressive strength like Quikrete 5000 Concrete Mix.

Commercial grade cement, stone or gravel and sand mix is specially formulated to achieve a compressive strength of 1,500 psi in 24 hours (and 5,000 psi in a month). Such a strong concrete can even withstand vehicle traffic, so you can be sure that entertaining family and friends in your backyard yard won't be a problem. The prepared mixture is routinely used for poured concrete of this type. For driveways, slabs, and concrete sidewalks, it's typical to pour 4 inches thick.

This thickness is in addition to a 2-3 inch base of gravel, sand, limestone, or other aggregate. The cement to be used must be Cockburn Cement Type GP, which comes in gray or cream color. For small jobs, use the Cockburn general purpose concrete package. Cockburn premixed range already contains cement, sand and aggregates.

Sleek and attractive like granite or marble, but at a fraction of the cost, concrete is durable, economical and DIY-friendly, perfect for building outdoor elements, patios, and even furniture and decorative pieces. Its superplasticizer additive produces ultra-fluid concrete, making it easy to fill the mold and get a smooth finish without much work. You can install your own lawn edging for a fraction of what a professional landscaper would charge by pouring mixed concrete into a form of plywood or vinyl along the desired contour. When the purge water has left the surface and the concrete has started to harden, it's time to apply the required finish.

In addition to choosing a type of concrete, you'll also need to make decisions about concrete finishes, such as dyes and sealants. And even in climates below freezing point, the surrounding soil is usually warm enough to allow the concrete to set with just a little hay or straw to insulate the top. This can be a particular problem in hot and humid climates, because the underlying concrete can become too difficult to work with before surface water evaporates. Just be prepared to leave when the truck arrives, because it costs more if they have to wait, and there is only a limited time before they have to get the mixed concrete out of the truck once it's wet, the chemistry that makes it difficult won't stop.

I almost always use the same 3500 psi concrete for all my residential slabs, which is 1 part cement, 2.5 parts sand and 3 parts stone. With so many different types of concrete mixes available, it's imperative to understand the differences to choose the ideal material for the job. Compact and level the entire area to be concreted, allowing for a slight slope away from buildings for drainage purposes. As a result, I have mixed a good number of concrete mix bags for deck shoes, for stair breaks, and for repairing a variety of slab cuts and various damages.

The table below shows how to adjust the proportion of ingredients to affect the strength of the concrete mix. Frank Owens, Vice President of Marketing at Quikrete, says: “Today, bagged concrete mixes are designed for specific purposes. Typically, you'll want a product that brakes quickly so that the area can be used as soon as possible, and you'll want to work an area small enough to be able to finish the concrete before they set. Master Mix Concrete supplies ready-mix concrete to domestic and commercial customers in Watford, Harrow and the North London area.
